***ANNOUNCEMENT***
Attention Cubs and Parents:
Our next Den Meeting will be held on Saturday, September 1st at 10:00 am.
The location will be at the 1300 Court of University East Village.
At the meeting, we will be working on the Wolf badge Achievement #7 as well as discussing places to go for our first field trip.
Just to whet your appetite, here are our three options:
-> A night of stargazing at the University Observatory.
-> A tour of the Fort Douglas museum given by a US Army veteran.
-> A bird watching day hike on the Red Butte trail ending in the Botanical Gardens.
(Parents, if we take this hike I am going to need at least two stout adults to accompany us.)
Start thinking about what you want to do and we will discuss it all on Saturday.
If you can't make the meeting, please e-mail me with your suggestions. (pack4684wolves@gmail.com)
See you Saturday!

8-24-07 Pack Meeting
This past Friday, the pack came together for a meeting observing the 100 Year Anniversary of Scouting! As a treat, the Cubmaster managed to get her hands on a time capsule collected by Lord Robert Baden-Powell and buried by his Brownsea Scouts waaay back in 1907.
While I'm sure the U of U Anthropology Department was not amused, our Cubs were eager to hear the wise words Lord Robert had to impart. Inside the capsule, he had placed several tokens that represented the values of Scouting he wished to teach. The boys listened intently and in the end, their thoughtful faces and calm smiles gave proof that the Old Scout's words were not lost.
After Lord Robert's capsule was opened, the Cubmaster gave each of the boys a capsule of their own to open when they became Eagle Scouts. Inside each of them was their picture and some papers describing their scouting experience thus far.
I hope our Cubs get to open them as Eagles one day.
OK, onto the pictures!
The West Village Cubs had the honor of presenting the colors at the meeting. They did a really outstanding job!
After the Flag Ceremony, the Pack played a fun game of "Scout Bingo" in hopes of getting to know everyone.
It was a great time.
After bingo, the Cubmaster told Lord Robert's story and opened the capsule for all to see.
It was exciting stuff.
She had a captive audience!
After the main activity was complete, the floor was given to the Den Leaders to announce any awards. I was proud to announce that two of our Cubs earned an advancement bead!
One was given to our fast-track scout, C.L.
He's sure to earn his Wolf Badge very soon!
The second was awarded to V.Z.
Way to go, guys!
After the meeting, the Pack was treated to refreshments!
Hostess cupcakes, anyone?
Once we were done, grown-ups and youths alike helped clean up the gym. It went by pretty quickly when everyone helped.
Thanks for all the effort, boys.
And thanks to the Pack Leadership for putting on a great meeting!
See you all next month!

East Village Trash Pick-up!
Our first meeting was an incredible success!
I really enjoyed meeting all of the boys and some of the parents, too.
We started off with an opening prayer, followed by the Cub Scout Promise.
Afterwards, I tried to get a grasp on how far along everyone was towards their Wolf / Bear badges. That was easier said than done. It turns out all the boys are at different steps along their awards trail.
That being said, I'm sending out an All-Points-Bulletin to all my Den Parents:
Parents, please, please, pretty-please determine how far along your child is towards their next badge. You can do this by looking at the checked off achievements in their handbook. Once you have that information, please e-mail your son's completed achievement list to the Den e-mail (pack4684wolves@gmail.com) and I'll update their records ASAP.
After our business items, the Den and I hunkered down to complete our service project, collecting litter from the East Village!
The guys did great. Take a look!
Starting in the 1300 Court, the guys found a ton of garbage everywhere. Wrappers, toy bits, cigarette butts, there seemed no end to it. Here we are, making our way towards the north court. Right about now, I began wondering if we were in too deep!
But the Cubs were up to the challenge.
They dashed around the courtyards seeing who could fill their bag the fastest. Here we are about half-way done. Look how full those bags are!
In the end the boys were tired, but content.
Thanks to them, the East Village is a lot cleaner now.
Be proud of them, parents.
They earned those uniforms today.
By the way, today's activities have allowed our Cubs-in-attendance to check off Achievement 7d in the Wolf Handbook (p. 76) as well as the Conservation Service Project for the Cub Scout Conservation Service Award (p. 226).

Walking the Wolf Trail #1
Cubs,
At our next meeting (Friday, August 17 at 6 pm) we will be wrapping up the requirements for Achievement #3 in the Wolf Handbook (pg. 56).
I hope you boys have been filling out the Healthy Habits form handed out by the Cubmaster at the last Pack Meeting. If not, then get to it! The more Achievements you complete, the closer you are to the Wolf Badge!
If you've lost or never received your Healthy Habits form, the Cubmaster will have copies to pass out on Friday.
Keep walking the Wolf Trail. Don't give up!!!
What to bring to meetings...
Guys, it's up to us to be our best when we assemble for a Den or Pack meeting.
That means that when we muster, there are some things we've got to have with us :
-Uniform Shirt-
Make sure your uniform shirt is neat and tidy because how we look often influences how people think about us. The short sleeve shirt is the only required uniform item according to the Pack standard established by the Cubmaster.
-Neckerchief-
An unusual uniform requirement, to be sure. But for a Cub Scout Leader, these yellow (or blue) beauties serve as an excellent way to keep track of our boys. A quick tally of the neckerchiefs and ta-da, instant headcount! Other than a shirt, this is the only uniform requirement I'll ever place on the Den. Thankfully, it's pretty inexpensive.
(Parents: While new uniform articles aren't cheap, there are several online uniform exchanges that sell used stuff for great prices! E-mail me if you have any questions.)
-Wolf / Bear Handbook-
Fellas, it's up to me to keep track of your advancement towards awards. That being said, I ask that you always, always, ALWAYS bring your handbook to the Den or Pack meetings. After all, I can't advance you if I don't see your handbook checklists!
-A Good Attitude-
Being a Cub Scout means being ready to come together to work as a team. The Den can't function if it's full of bullies, class clowns and lollygaggers. Come ready to learn, play and have fun!
That's it.
If you bring all these things to each and every meeting, we'll be on our way to being the best Den in the Pack!

6-27-07 Pack Meeting
The Pack meeting on Wednesday, June 27, turned out to be a momentous one for the Wolf / Bear Den!
All the boys got to prepare and cook an outdoor meal (WHB, p. 81).
Afterwards, the Cubmaster put the Den through its paces as she helped the boys clear off Achievement #1 in the Wolf Handbook. (Specifically, requirements 1a, 1d, 1f, 1g, 1k and 1l; WHB, pp. 38-45.) Can you believe we had to run in place for five minutes?!?
The Cubmaster also lectured the boys on the Pledge of Allegiance, making sure that each Cub understood its meaning and significance (requirement 2a; WHB, p. 47).
But the highlight of the meeting came with the awards ceremony.
I'm pleased to announce that each of our boys earned their Bobcat badge along with their Archery and Geology belt loops!
It turns out that all that fun at day camp also helped them advance in rank!
Way to go, guys!
